meh. Pay $250 for a tablet that fails, and deal with $100 worth of hassle from the manufacturer, or buy a $100 tablet that fails, throw it out and buy another tomorrow. Decisions, decisions.
I've had a little 12" Coby HD tv in my kitchen for over five years now, it still works like a champ. While I admit their reliability was suspect, the majority of people still had few issues with them.
