Question for audiophiles...i have an old pair of vintage Altec Lansing speakers ...Model 5 that my father bought years ago. It is from the 80s. How easy is to get the speakers repaired? Parts to get? I pulled it out of my closet just this morning while cleaning my house. It hasn't been used for years. The last time it was used...there were static sounds from audio when i played my radio and listened to music. I currently dont have any audio system at home, so nowhere to test it. Thanks.

there isnt much to speakers

perhaps you have a blown tweeter or bad crossover

you can look for these kinds of parts at someplace like parts express or mcm sometimes you can find a direct repl for the part for pretty cheap

but if you end up changing any of the drivers you need to do the same on the other speaker or the sound 'll be off

if it has a foam surround its probably long gone and is a bother to replace.
the woofer could be damaged tweeter blown cap in crossover leaky or shorted.
I dont think they great speakers when they were new.

I had the same problem you do, blown foam around the cones.

I was able to find a replacement cone kit, and although it took longer than expected, refoaming them was a breeze and both speakers now sound as they did when they were new...
