I am not a video gamer but have found that the XBox 1S is the cheapest 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray HDR capable player currently avalible. Before I look further at this instead of a dedicated disk player, I just wanted to ask if anyone is using their XBox 1s as a HD Blu-ray player, and if so what do you think of it.
The same thing happened when the PS3 came out. It was the cheapest way to play bluray at the time. IMO, I don't think 4K bluray will be a big thing. By the time it becomes mainstream you will see many more streaming options. In other words, the disc is not quite dead, but will be in a few years. For the foreseeable future, high quality lossless video will still need to be on disc.
A disc is the only medium where you will see 4k in full uncompressed 4k Just like the only medium to see uncompressed 1920x1080 HD is from an OTA local TV station.
Agree with GGuerra. Even compressed 4K video looks AMAZING! We don't need discs.
