Cable box had a problem (channel, channels, direct, sound)

Yesterday I turned on the cable box and the entire picture was judding, or vibrating, in all four directions. This was true on all channels and even when the guide was displayed. Sound was okay.

I repowered the box and it went back to normal. What do you suppose happened? In the past when there's a problem, I just lose everything.

Do you leave your cable box on all the time? I'm afraid to, because it gets so hot. But I only use it 50% of the time.
