So a USB type 2 to HDMI cable will still not let me watch DVD directly without the PC?

Oh, that certain clears things up.

That is the main interface on an external USB device. It happens to be USB-B, that's all and without it, you couldn't use it at all. Big difference between a DVD Drive and a standalone DVD player.

No, USB has nothing to do with HDMI.

This is what you need and NO, you cannot hook it up to your TV. It is usable on a PC, laptop etc. You can use software like VLC to watch the DVD's and you can hookup your PC or laptop to your TV in various ways. You can probably find it cheaper at Walmart?

Ok, thanks. I'll give up the thought. The main reason I wanted to use it without the PC is I want to save my PC and prolong its life as it is now out of warranty.
