Hands down the best for TV's is Walmart. Not that I like Walmart but for TV's they offer the lowest prices, free delivery and you can take it back no questions asked. Yes, better prices than Costco or Sam's. I would not bother with repairing any TV these days.

Here's a 65" Samsung for $478

That's a good price! Only 2 HDMI though. Sammy makes you pay if you want 3 or 4...

That is usually the case. I guess HDMI ports are expensive?

No, but it’s a price differentiator. I’d bet even the board hardware is the same, just no extra HDMI sockets. TV models are all about incremental upselling.

Walmart is offering a TCL 4K 75” for $799 which is insane.

Exactly. I wanted a Samsung but the premium for the extra HDMI ports wasn't worth it to me. I got a 55" TCL 4K for $299 instead.

It's non-issue for many. I use one HDMI port 99% of the time, my Fire Stick 4k. I can't even remember when I used my Bluray. The other one I might use but also can't remember when is my HTPC laptop, also on HDMI. In my computer room, I have an older TV from 2006 with only one HDMI . I got a $15 4-port switch for that one. That is my second monitor for when I want to watch movies.

There are ways around this.

Two HDMI's would be enough for me.

That’s more than just HDMI though. It could be panel quality, brightness, contrast, etc. I have a Samsung 65” in my living room but a TCL in the bedroom and guest room. The Samsung picture is better and gets watched more.

When you compare within the same brand and there’s a cheap model it’s usually a cut-down feature set sold with the same panel as a more expensive model. Or sometimes it’s last year’s model warmed over.

Agree. Not saying it's the ONLY consideration.

Fair enough. Love those cheap TCL TVs though. Especially if you use an external sound bar.
