Find out what the native orientation of the camera is and always use that.
This can be difficult to explain but the raw video file is not flipped if the camera is upside down, for example if you flipped a film camera the negative is upside down. Same thing applies here.
With digital you can apply an orientation flag, "this side up". As long as the software you are using to display it supports the flag it will rotate it and use the right orientation. If it doesn't support the flag or if the flag is lost during conversion for example the raw orientation is used which is upside down if that is how it was recorded.

OK I have to explore this further. My camera which is Olympus TG-Tracker just seems to follow it's own logic.
I initially watched the video with invert setting, and the video was a bit choppy. I thought it was because the video was being played invertly.
So then I use VLC to convert the 29 min video, and saved a new file. When playing the new, right-side up video, I observed that the video is still choppy. Apparently this choppiness is not due to the play mode.
As a verification, I played it with Windows Media Player, and sure enough it is smooth.
