What for?
Do you want to see the hairs on someone's face?
1080 should be good enough especially if you have 480 right now. 1080 is more or less the standard now especially with IP cameras. Even 720 is pretty damn good.

But if it’s a minor price increase why not?
I wonder though if it’s an analog surveillance system if new cables would be required.

Because 4K video will take up 4 times the disk space to store.
Go HD.

Pretty sure new wiring would be required.
Although 4k surveillance from a resolution standpoint is not really needed imo it may become the standard much like HD is now. So no big deal. As far as the storage, I am sure they compress whenever possible. I googled it. You can get a 4 camera system starting at $280.

Understood, but that may or may not be a major issue to OP. The difference in cost between a 2TB and 8TB drive now isn’t huge.

Thanks. I looked at the first Lorex and noted under comments that someone said that for 4K recording it was limited to 7fps - or 1/4 the frame rate for 4x the resolution. So either you get clear frames with jerky motion or at 1080p get fuzzier frames with smooth motion.

thats a good point about the lower framerates on 4k systems.
i might as well jsut go with 1080 but highr framerate than a stuttering 4k video

480 to 1080 is more than double the resolution. Unless you have a need for extreme detail a higher end 1080 system will be better than lower end 4K at the same or lower price.
Or, get a 4K capable system with 1080 cameras.
