My special needs son has a kindle fire which is fine but sometimes he would rather play with my I phone. I would like to get him a Ipod touch all it needs to do is load a few kids games and play you tube videos. He can be rough on things so I would get him a refurbished Ipod touch and a good phone case. What generation of i touch do I need to be able to download you tube I saw they don't support 4th generation, Is that true ? I really don't want to buy a new one for what he needs it for . Thank you for your help.

I would keep an eye out for a 6th generation. It’s 64 bit and supports up to around iOS 12 (14 was just released). Anything older is only to iOS 9.

Swappa doesn’t have any 6th gen listed right now but the going rate is around $100 or so.

Other option is to get a used iPhone SE (first generation) - you don’t have to put a SIM in it.

Agree with Mark, By not putting a SIMI in it it cannot be a phone so its effectively an iPod.
