My Sony Bravia ( KDL-32L4000) was purchased in May 2008.
In the past few days the bottom third of the screen has distorted, hazy images and lines. That has increased from the two inches or so of distorted image it was a few days before.
It happens whether I am on the ATT/Uverse cable or the Amazon Fire stick, so that suggests to me it is the TV and not the provider.
I realize I may have to bite the bullet and get a new TV...but does anyone have a suggestion for something to try first? I have Googled but don't see this model and my problem.
I am not a techie at all and HATE having to deal with these types of issues. Thanks for any thoughts!
If you think it is on its last breath... any recommendations for a good, not super pricey new replacement?
Well the Bravia is only 32" and I could go a little bigger...probably 50" ish would be the limit for my coffee table. I'm not a gamer at all. I think under $500? I've started googling the whole 4K deal vs.
HD and remain confused on if it matters. I have AT&T cable and Amazon Fire stick and pay for Hulu with the latter.

Twelve years is pretty decent for a TV. I tend to stick to Sony, but looking at the prices of Samsung vs. Sony and the TVs when walking through a store had me saying to myself, the next time I replace a TV it will be for cost and not so much for the name.
I still have a Panasonic plasma hanging on my wall that I bought in ‘06. The big concern back then was burn in- that never happened. It’s still like new, but I have had to add an hdmi hub to it to plug in a Roku and to switch it to antenna occasionally. The sound on it is awesome. It has two speakers attached, one on each side, that are impressively good for the set-up.
I will likely get a new tv as well in the next couple years. I’m waiting for the OLEDs to come down in price. Our tv is over the fireplace and the viewing angle is important.
My last Sony stopped work exactly one month after the warranty expired. I decided to replace it with a Vizio and that TV is still working 10 years later.

Price difference between the 43 and the 50 and even the 55 is minimal so unless you are really pressed for space, I would go with the bigger sizes.
I got a 50" LG for around $300 last year. I use it as a monitor in 4k.
It's this one here. I am very satisfied with it. It's at $320.
Yes, a capacitor or something is going. Fear not, modern TV's are much better picture quality for dirt cheap, though if you want true black levels you have to spend more. As for what to buy, just look for your price range and get a 5 star deal here...
