Not sure this is the right forum but will start here.
I'm trying to reduce costs so I am cutting the AT&T cord, ending the TV/Internet/home phone bundle.
I did want to keep my home phone number of 15 years so I bought a Magic Jack and a cheapie corded phone from Amazon. (I also have a cellphone, still with AT&T.)
The Majic Jack has been activated and my phone number successfully transferred. I can call myself and leave VMs and a friend called as well and left a VM. The magic Jack is connected to my new Xfinity Internet router, not a computer.
The problem is == the phone is not ringing. I have checked the cords and the settings on the phone. Assuming the highest volume is 4 I have it on that. There are no "off" or "on" switches on the handset. I have chosen a ring tone and I can hear that if I press the "ring" button (there are 24 ring tone choices.)
So...I'm thinking the problem is with the phone, not the Magic Jack? Any thoughts or suggestions?
Anything "techie" is not my strong suit at all so this whole switchover has been pretty stressful. NOTHING ever works exactly as the instructions say. It took two hours on the phone with different Magic Jack reps to get the phone activated. New "firmware" had to be downloaded, etc. I also got a new smart TV and have an antenna hooked up to the Xfinity router for the local channels.
All that to say I'm doing a lot of new things. I didn't think the telephone would be an issue, but apparently it is.
If you go into your management console for your magic jack account - is there a ringer setting? Or maybe do not disturb is turned on?
I don't have MagicJack - but like all VoIP products, you should have a web interface where you can configure settings (call forwarding, black list/white list, speed dial, call scheduling, etc.).
