We had a 55" and decided to just leave it and sell with the house. For far less than that one costs to buy and then ship, we got a new flat panel (37 inch). Had it delivered to us the day after we got here.
Glad we got rid of the elephant in the living room (IT was HUGE)!!! Liz

You SO do not get it. Asking a man to downgrade the inches of his TV set?? No. Never as a man to lose inches in the things he values most.
Can you just rent a Dodge Caravan one way and put it in the back of that? The seats fold down into the floor like a cargo van - seems to me that would be the cheapest and most stress free way of going....provided someone can drive the Honda and someone can drive the Caravan...

I'm hoping to take it with a service that offers insurance because if it breaks I don't want to be out the money. I'm pretty sure U-Haul and most shipping services offer insurance but I don't know about a van rental.

Well U-Haul's price for a small trailer wasn't too bad but then I found out I had to buy the hitch, pay to have it installed, get an attachment for it and the ball hitch as well. Way too much for a one time deal. This is obsurd. You would think I'm not the first person to want to ship a large item like this.
I'm going to call some specialty shippers I found online as well as DHL tonight...wish me luck, I'll need it.
can you leave it with a relative and pick it up later? Fly down to visit and then rent a pickup to drive back?

I may need to leave it with a relative for now then figure out an alternate way to get it up there. I play tons of games I will miss my TV!
