Silly me , for just skimming the article. At this point i would just drop the plan , if its going to cost that high for a rail trail. I can understand for upgrading 19 miles of Rail , but for a Rail Trail thats absurd.

You're right, that does seem like an absurdly big price to pay. I guess I don't understand why the railroad isn't supposed to help pay for it. If I had a few million dollars I'd pay for it myself, I really want this project to work. But I just can't see the local governments paying that much for a walking/biking trail. It makes me sad.

Does TDOT own the line or does another company own it?

It's NERR, Nashville & Eastern Railroad. They're a short line, I think they've got less than 150 miles of track.

I had my doubts from the very beginning. The only ones who have benefited from this project thus far is the sand company. If it is going to cost that much just to revamp rr crossings, I cant imagine what the bill will be to actually build the trail from Algood up the mountain to Monterey. The terrain is rough and there is going to be a lot of ill will when eminent domain land grabbing starts. Many folks are already not happy about the rail coming back. But it will be nice if they ever get it completed. Im starting to think Ill be too old to enjoy it by then.
