OVERTON COUNTY -- Last May, Berkline Corporation announced the closing of its upholstery division costing Overton County 250 jobs. Only three months later, the remaining 110 employees of Berkline were told that plant's remaining operations would be moved to Lenior City.
The Berkline Corporation plant at 214 Industrial Park Drive in Livingston will be closing its plant and moving the reclining mechanisms division in abouttwo months. The Livingston plant began manufacturing stand alone recliners in 1972.

The report that only 250 people lost their jobs is completely incorrect. I corrected the Herald-Citizen on this but obviously it did no good. Over 800 people from the Livingston/Overton County area were laid off. Several were then signed up for unemployment benefits, but the money they receive doesnt cover their monthly charge for Health Insurance. So thank you Berkline for moving your manufacturing plant to Mississippi and turning your back on employess that have been dedicated for over 30 years.
