Here's a recent article in the Cookeville paper about the expansion of the VA clinic in Cookeville:

Default Home Depot

Hey JMT, did you say way back that Cookeville was getting a Depot?

That's what the Cumberland Business Journal reported a couple of months ago. It essentially said that J&S Construction in Cookeville is working with Home Depot to build a store in Cookeville, and it said that it's probably going to go up by Sam's Club.

I agree! Even though I like Lowe's better, I'm also big on competition. Cookeville does have several other large home-improvement/hardware/lumber stores in addition to Lowe's, but they could definitely also use a Home Depot.

The Cumberland Business Journal said that Home Depot is definitely coming to Cookeville, it's just a matter of ironing out the details and picking the right location with J&S Construction.

By the way, J&S also bought the Cookeville Mall and are teaming up with the company that developed Providence in Mount Juliet to redevelop the Cookeville Mall with stores that are currently in Mount Juliet but not in Cookeville, which would be Target and Best Buy. Pretty cool.

There was no timetable given in the article, but it did point out that Peebles, which is currently in the mall, is relocating to a new store it's developing on West Jackson across from Belk and Sears. So nothing can happen to the mall until Peebles packs up and leaves. JCPenney has said they are definitely staying put. The article quoted the guy (last name is Stites, I don't remember his first name) saying that they'll probably leave JCPenney alone then demolish the rest of the mall and rebuild it around JCPenney as a strip center instead of an enclosed mall. I personally can't wait!

The DAV will be slightly closer to Penny's in the Mall. It is near the Interstate, (110 Neal Street, Cookeville) but will not be far from the new Home Depot.

For those folks from florida... the Bi-Lo at Jackson and Willow in Cookeville will soon be a Publix grocery.
