I've seen them advertising for all staff positions, maybe a total makeover and new staff? That Applebees has the worst service of any I've been in.

My first thought was it must be a Vanderbilt hangout with a name like Anchor Down. But after looking at their Facebook page it's clearly not a Vandy thing, and it looks like someplace I would like to try. I hope they're successful. That particular location on Restaurant Row seems to be cursed. I hope they'll be more successful than the other restaurants that used to be in that spot.

That makes sense. I haven't been there in years but I've heard similar complaints about its service. A few years ago Applebee's closed all its Memphis stores in one fell swoop and started over from scratch. I bet that's what they're doing here, too.

This is at least a completed different type of place than has ever been in that building before. Hopefully this will do well, this is someplace that I would like to see succeed.

Today's paper is saying Applebee's has closed because it no longer wants to lease the land. It said that if the right parcel became available to buy then they would consider opening a new location in Cookeville, but they're no longer interested in leasing land. Lame. Here's hoping that something good will come in and replace Applebee's in a hurry. As I recall, after Cookeville passed liquor-by-the-drink umpteen years ago, Applebee's was the first place to open so it's kind of sad to see it close so suddenly.

Last time we were in Applebees was about a year ago, the waitress sat us in a booth, the vinyl was torn off the seat and the stuffing was coming out. I felt the handwriting was on the wall at that time. Food/service was pretty good/ price not so much, so we never went back.

Ruby Tuesday, total zero re: service. Ordered and waited 45 minutes for our meal and we could see our meal sitting under warming lights for 1/2 an hour from where we were sitting before it was served. Then the waiter added on extras to the bill for stuff that we hadn't ordered, Called him on that and waited another 15 minutes for the check to be filled out correctly. Never went there again, good way to lose a customer.

Just had a coupon for Outback a couple weeks ago, 2 for the price of one entree. Man, those portions get smaller all the time, won't go back there again, either. No refills on the $2.50 ice tea. I know times are tough but was does a refill iced tea cost them after spending $5 for 2 drinks? And what's up with serving a tea spoon full of steak sauce in a little dish ?? Bye Bye to you , too

I see the construction of the new Rib City building is coming along quick now. That is the only chain we hit regularly anymore in town (other than Firehouse), still a decent deal for the lunch menu. Food is good/fresh, but the price is creeping up steadily. Wonder how much lunch will cost in the new building??

I see Jersey Mikes has a sign out, Under New Ownership, maybe now they will start putting some meat on the sandwiches

What we need is a Bono's like they have in St Augustine, now we're talkin' about real BBQ !! Or a Jimmy Buffs !!

Well now that we know for sure that Applebee's is closed for good, I would love to see it replaced with Red Robin. I'm sure whoever owns that property will market it aggressively.

NO, NO, NO .... No Red Robin in Cookeville

Having to drive to Mount Juliet for Red Robin helps to regulate the urge ... and the bank account

Red Robin is a prime candidate for Shoppe at Eagle Pointe. They like to build their own layout, don't see the Applebee's as a good fit. I know of 1 place they went into an old Max and Erma's and they took it to a shell to refit. Would have been cheaper to build. Would like to see a Mellow Mushroom there.

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking. I actually like the burgers and fries at Village Kitchen on 10th Street better anyway.

I suppose they could rebuild, just as Buffalo Wild Wings tore down the old Rafferty's rather than retrofit it. But I totally agree about Mellow Mushroom!
