I was looking for online video hoping to find scenes of Cookeville and found this...

YouTube - Hwy 111 N to Hwy 70 N via Browns Mill Rd

How close is this actually to Cookeville? It's very pretty. Does anyone here have video such as this of the area? (hint hint)

How cool! That's right outside the city. In fact, the opening part of the video, pretty much up until where the semi truck turns to the left and disappears from the video, is inside the city limits. It's in the SE part of town. Great video! (Unfortunately, it'll probably be deleted from here since YouTube videos aren't allowed in city-data forums.)

The beginning of the video passes by the new Oreck plant, I think and the Averitt express terminal on the left. Then it turns past the Citgo station and to what we call the "pretty drive." My husband takes a variation of that drive every Sunday. For the entirety of the drive, Cookeville (the main drags, etc) is to the left of the driver. If he had chosen to make a right when he hit 70 (left would be toward cookeville, I think), he would take an even prettier drive!

It's actually much prettier in real life!

You're not kidding, that drive on Hwy 70 between Cookeville and Monterey is gorgeous, particularly through Dry Valley. When I go to Cookeville, I almost always take Hwy 70 back to Monterey before getting back on I-40 for the drive back to Knoxville.

If I had a video camera, I'd drive it and post it for tennesseedreamin.

side note: the Admin of this site has very recently decided that if the "Youtube" clip is like this one, the showing of an area, those are now permissible!!!

That was wonderful! I can't wait to come back and make the drive for myself. How is that road to travel in January?

I'm sure the part of the road that's within the city limits will be fine, but the rest of it might be a little too fun to drive if there's a layer of ice on the roads. On the other hand, snow and ice rarely stay longer than a day or two, and invariably the roads clear up in the afternoon sun before re-freezing at night.

In other words, it should be fine, but if the temperature is below freezing, watch out for that black ice.

Oh wait, if you're referring to Hwy 70 (which is not the road in the video clip, but which Wordy and I talked about) it should be fine since it's a federal highway; those are usually the first to be salted and cleared in the winter. And trust me, Hwy 70 between Cookeville and Monterey is a beeeeautiful drive.

It'll be fine for 99% of January (either road, probably).

Let's put in our positive thoughts now for a nice rousing blizzard in Putnam and Cumberland Counties for sometime December-Januaryish. It won't harm anyone but it will be very cold with lots of snow. Who's with me???!!! Anyone? Just a little blizzard. Not like a Little House On The Prairie blizzard.

Wordy, no thanks! We moved here from Michigan to get away from snow! A dusting here and there...fine. Even a mini blizzard...no.
