I guess being from California I have seen the Sierra club in action way too many times. They led the law suits to protect the tiny Delta Smelt that led to shutting off vital irrigation water to the central California farming industry ... and which also contributed to the current California water crisis.

Anyway ... end of rant

Not on topic, but how much cattle is raised in California? How much of California's non-animal-agriculture production goes to support animal ag (i.e. crops raised so cattle can eat it)?

It takes 600+ gallons of water to produce a single hamburger patty.

To make a burger, first you need 660 gallons of water ... - LA Times (among many other sources)

I don't think Sierra Club is really a major contributor to the drought in California, and I'll point to my earlier post in this thread: their actions in this development are primarily symbolic. They most likely don't expect to win this fight, even though they might have won this round.

The builder is determined to continue. Hopefully the Sierra club is just a small speed bump that can be easily removed.

This article gives more insight on the development. I'm glad to see Chipotle on the list. That's one restaurant I would support just for their position on good food products and especially their position on GMO foods. I would like to see more food businesses take that same position. I think local farmers could make a killing growing and selling non GMO foods and foods that meet organic standards. The demand for these products are going to skyrocket.

I'm glad to see Chipotle in there, too, but especially Panera. I am one of those people who drive all the way to Mt Juliet for Panera. And Publix.

It sounds like the local government leaders are all pushing for this to work out, too, which I hope means it will happen sooner rather than later.

We haven't tried Panera yet but we will give them a try. Like Chipotle they are also making changes to their menu and ingredients to provide better quality food products. I'm not saying I only eat at restaurants based on the ingredients they use ... I just want to be aware on what they use or sell so I can make a informed choice.

In a way I hate to be one of those people who move and want the new area to be just like where they are leaving. Having said that, we have done our grocery shopping at Publix since the early 60s and we like getting lunch at Panera now and then and dinner from Chipotle occasionally. So we are happy about them coming to Cookeville soon after we get there next summer.

That is interesting. I wonder if 5 Bel°w is going to go in one of the outparcels? I noticed that two of the three signs that were advertising the environmental hearings were removed, but one still remains. I guess the outparcels are maybe not included in the Sierra Club's stupid suit?
