Someone told me today that the new plan for the mall is to convert it from an indoor mall to an outdoor mall, meaning the stores will open up to the parking lot. No major structural changes, just moving some interior walls around and installing more doors to the outside. I hope that's the case, and I hope they'll be able to bring in some good retailers like a JoAnn Fabrics or Marshalls. With the new retailers coming in at Shoppes at Eagle Pointe, I think it's fair to say that Cookeville will be on the radar of national retailers that are looking to expand into more rural areas.

I recently watched a interesting documentary called "All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Record". It was amazing how a business could expand so fast and even revitalize the surrounding neighborhood due to the huge new customer attraction. It worked because Tower records sold a product that people really wanted at that time in history and the business model they used.

It makes you wonder if a similar scenario could happen if the right store opened at the mall (inside or outside mall).

Tower Records...now that brings back memories of a time when tangibly holding music in your hands was special. The Tower Records on West End in Nashville was a wonderful place.

Last night Ricky Shelton posted that Harbor Freight is coming to Cookeville in the former Hancock Fabrics location. I'm a happy camper.

Mayor Shelton has a teaser on his Facebook page that tomorrow (Thursday Aug 18) at 3pm there's going to be an "exciting announcement" about a major economic development for Cookeville. Any idea what it is?

If I had to bet, I would say it is going to be what is going in on the lot of land that the Patels own on Jackson and Willow. It has been recently cleared out and looks ready to be primed. Thoughts?

The Shopping Center Group has Sprouts on their client list; 35K sf anchor perhaps a good fit?
