I had a neighbor mention the "Bloody Eighth" and said some areas of Putnam used to be pretty rough. They didn't provide much details so I did some digging and found the following. I'm always interested in history and especially if it's in an area near me. I'm always looking for sources for local history. I would like to find out more about the dirt racing track off I40 in Baxter. It looks like it was open not that long ago. Has anyone been to it when it was open?

I love it! I have a few friends who live in the "Bloody Eighth" and they get a kick out of telling everyone that's where they live. I think the Southern Hills country club and Burgess Falls State Park are in the "Bloody Eighth."

According to that article the districts changed at some point. The southwest part of Putnam near Burgess falls is now the 7th district but apparently some locals still call it the "Bloody Eighth".

Here are the most recent maps.
District 7
District 8

Halloween would see huge fires set in the roads for waiting traffic; Austin Bottom is still rumored to be a dumping ground for bodies; and stories of surveyors going missing while they surveyed for the damming of the Caney Fork for Center Hill Lake....

I use to go every weekend my family just recently bought the Crossville speedway but they started losing money so they sold the cookeville racetrack and a log company bought it and logged it and it's still for sale at the moment but nobody will buy it because it needs so much work
