Poet's Kitchen is now open on Cedar just around the corner from the Depot and next door to World Foods. Serving just breakfast and lunch, their hours are 7am-2pm. The menu looks interesting with things like lox and bagels, breakfast bagels, curry chicken on warm croissants, turkey avocado sandwiches with lemon garlic aïoli, and more.

Renderings for this building have been released. It should be a nice addition to downtown.

The city has purchased the small self-storage lot on Cedar right across the street from Father Tom's Pub for a future parking lot although probably not for another year. I just hope they're able to save the mural that was recently painted on the side of one of the storage buildings facing the street. But more parking is definitely needed in that part of downtown.

With the owners of Pops & Gumdrops closing their retail store in order to concentrate on their wholesale cookie dough business, a "medical boutique and spa" is taking over that space on Broad as well as the building behind it on Cedar. Eden on Broad hopes "to provide an inviting and serene location in the heart of the Historic Westside that offers spa services, medical procedures, and shopping."

Two local artists have completed unique benches which are now sitting in the historic West Side area of downtown Cookeville. Metal artist Abraham Pardee, whose studio is in Sparta, created the bench located on Cedar Avenue next to Father Tom's Pub, and mixed media artist David George Fricke, whose studio is in Cookeville, created the bench located next to the historic Cookeville Depot Museum. These works of art join Spokes, the large steel arch of bicycles also created by Fricke, which is located just west of the depot at the beginning of the bike trail connecting downtown Cookeville to downtown Algood.

Interesting news in today's paper. The building which until recently houses an antique store at the corner of Cedar and the railroad tracks downtown is being demolished. No word on what's going to happen to the property other than it's zoned for pretty much anything commercial, from apartments to retail to offices. According to the state assessor's office, the building was built in 1920, and the entire property is about a half-acre. With the city recently buying the adjacent self storage units to turn into a parking lot, and with the large Leslie Town Centre parking lot behind it, I wonder if it'll finally be the "high rise" (for Cookeville) condo building that's been hinted at for some time.

Totally agreed! I loved how the chirping cicadas seemed to get in tune with the symphony, too. It was a delightful way to spend a summer evening.
