For those wanting to do something this weekend with this beautiful weather, downtown's CityScape organization is throwing its annual Fall Fun Fest today and tomorrow, September 6-7. In addition to over 20 food trucks and other food vendors, there's the PBS Stations of Imagination, arts and crafts, a fun zone for kids, merchandise, and lots of live music culminating in a concert by Diamond Rio tomorrow night at 8. It's all taking place around the Courthouse Square downtown.

According to the state assessor's office, the building was built in 1920, and the entire property is about a half-acre. With the city recently buying the adjacent self storage units to turn into a parking lot, and with the large Leslie Town Centre parking lot behind it, I wonder if it'll finally be the "high rise" (for Cookeville) condo building that's been hinted at for some time.

Now we know why the building was demolished. A mixed-use development is going up at that site.

“Our hope is to have mixed use commercial and residential with commercial on the first level and residential above,” said developer Lindy Lynn. “Currently the plans are still in the works with an architect and an engineer.”

Lynn, who has herself lived in the WestSide area, is excited about the enhanced living and business opportunities in the downtown area.

Developers hope to break ground on the new project within the next six months. Lynn shared that they have preliminary drawings, but changes are still in the works and would need to be approved by the city before going public.

“The city has been super helpful in guiding us, and the people in the codes department have helped us as we try to formulate a development that complements the area,” added Lynn.

Does anyone know what is going on with the old spring street laundromat across from the broastry?

Here are some pictures from the city's Halloween "Treat Trail" in Dogwood Park downtown. Various churches and businesses set up booths where kids can go trick or treating along Dogwood Park's trails. From the city's Facebook page.

I've been looking forward to this store opening. Mission 931 has opened a brick and mortar store in the historic WestSide area downtown, 37 West Broad, next door to The Blue Pig. They have a lot of Cookeville and Tennessee-themed gifts (clothing, puzzles, mugs, etc.) in addition to make-your-own jewelry and other gift ideas.

The vacant lot where the decrepit old antique store used to be on the northeast corner of Cedar and Broad. A lot of us are eager to see the renderings for the mixed use building planned for the lot. The self storage units adjacent to the lot will also be coming down soon to make way for a much-needed parking lot.

A new office building going up on 1st Street between Oak and Hickory. It's being developed by a doctor. The hospital is in the distance to the right.

I just came from the grand opening of The Table in downtown Cookeville. It's a board game lounge that stocks over 200 board games and serves coffee from Broast across the street as well as other snacks and drinks. It's another nice place to hang out downtown.

I was in town yesterday and noticed that the old laundromat on the SW corner of Spring and Walnut is under contract. It's a historic building, built in 1930 as a Pepsi bottling plant. Any ideas who's buying it and what their plans are?

P-Dilly's Cupcakes has moved a couple of blocks west and is now open at 168 West Broad, sandwiched between the "There's Only One Cookeville" mural and the "Cookeville Coca-Cola" mural. There's more parking at this location.

P-Dilly's former location in the historic WestSide is being converted into the Putnam Drive In Museum which should open in a couple of months.
