Visited Cookeville - it didn't really speak to us (Maryville: restaurants, train)

Wife and I spent a few days in Cookeville last week before going to Winston-Salem to have Thanksgiving with relatives. Downtown seems to be trying, but hasn't arrived yet. The high point for me was the number of amazing local restaurants for a city this size. We had dinner and drinks at Father Tom's, excellent. Also dinner at Crawdaddy's - amazing, and another night at Mauricio's which was outstanding. Lunch at World Market was a great experience too. We visited the local history museum, and the train depot museum too. Housing didn't seem to have what we were after. Most stuff close to town was pretty old, and out in the suburbs the lots were way too big. There were a few that we liked very much. My wife noted the long distance to an airport, which was something I never even thought of. Plus, it's not as close to the mountains as I'd like.

On the way to Winston-Salem, we stopped in Maryville and picked up a packet from the Visitor center. Still on the list is Maryville, and Jonesborough. Right now, Greenville/Spartanburg SC is on top of the list.
