New FedEx facility and 200 more jobs-f8dc258f-f6d4-4f1b-aff8-7fb15d0c8e28.jpeg

New FedEx facility:

January’s biggest real estate deal has cleared the way for a new FedEx Ground Package facility to join the growth surrounding Cookeville’s newest interstate interchange at Tennessee Avenue.

The 48.56 acres at 4676 Tennessee Avenue brought $2.4 million and was purchased by WESTCO SRB LLC and WESTCO SRB II LLC, and all but one of the residential buildings on the property have been removed.

The facility will feature a 240,000-square-foot warehouse with an 11,000-square-foot office and approximately a 4,000-square-foot vehicle maintenance garage. This facility is designed by Castles Design Group, PLLC.

The developer for this project, The Westmoreland Group of Huntsville, Ala., also has several other FedEx Ground facilities under construction around the Southeast.

Tennessee ave south of I-40 will need a serious upgrade. It's an old 2 lane road and already has trucks blocking the road from time to time due to back-up at Academy.

Groundbreaking was this morning for the new FedEx facility.

FedEx Ground is building a 251,000-square-foot distribution facility on approximately 48 acres at 4676 Tennessee Avenue near the new Interstate 40 interchange at Exit 283 and the Highlands Business Park.

The new facility will allow FedEx to process 7,300 packages per hour.

The company has about 250 employees in Cookeville and plans to add another 200 with the opening of the new distribution facility.

Highlands Economic Partnership President/CEO Amy New had some additional insight into the potential economic impact this FedEx facility has on our area. What she says makes sense.

“It also really helps our existing industries,” New said. “Even next door to them Academy Sports is using FedEx for distributing, and it will also be a recruiting tool to us for the Highlands Business Park to say we have a FedEx distribution hub.”

The distribution hub will directly deliver e-commerce orders as well as supplier shipments. New said the expansion shows that the city is a hub for this type of industry.

“Also shows that industries in our area the need for those logistics and delivery related distribution hubs,” New said. “This is a massive facility too, so just that alone, that type of impact that it’s going to have in the county is tremendous.”
