On doing more research on the Cookeville area, I have found a website called The Putnam Pit. I don't believe that a link here is ok, but I am sure many of you have seen this site.

I know every area has it's share of problems, but viewing everything on this site concerns me. I am beginning to re-think my move to the area.

Any comments ?

Tim

Oh gosh, the Putnam Pit is pure tabloid "journalism" at its worse. The guy who started it was just angry that he got stopped for speeding, or something like that, while driving through Cookeville. I believe he lives in Wisconsin. So he fought the ticket and lost, but of course it wasn't his fault that he lost, it was all a bunch of crooked, small-town lawyers and judges who all conspired against him (so he says). So ever since then, he's had his own little personal war against Cookeville and would be happy to just see the entire town fizzle away.

Of course, every story has two sides, but in the case of the Putnam Pit, there's only one side, and everyone else is wrong. While I'm sure there's some small-town politics going on in Cookeville, I defy you to show me what small town in America DOESN'T have that. Even big cities like Chicago are notorious for it. And given the events of a couple of weeks ago here in Knoxville with the county commission, the same could be said of Knoxville.

Just go to Cookeville and see for yourself if what he's saying is true. Talk to people there, see what they say. If you think Cookeville is a rat's nest, then don't move there. But go look for yourself before you start believing what someone in Wisconsin who's upset he had to pay a speeding ticket has to say.

Looking to retire to a clean and dynamic location, we moved to Cookeville from New York four years ago and were familiar with that muckraking site long before our move. We could have moved anywhere but chose Cookeville. The reality is that this town is flourishing, attracting newcomers from all over our country and not at all like the fiction portrayed on that site. Cookeville's reality and success speak for itself, one of the most popular retirement and business environments in the state. The author's motivation and need for his/her sensational supermarket tabloid-type site escape me.

On the other hand, maybe that WAS an alien training camp I saw the other day next to town hall....

Oh, that is too funny.

Yes, JMT, I'm surprised that you and I have not brought up the Knoxville commissioners. I sat in my car at work and listened to that mess. I couldn't believe they pulled that. I was also surprised that the one local tv station reported it like it was no big deal. I understand the Knoxville Sentinel filed a lawsuit. It doesn't surprise me that it took a NEWSPAPER to finally do something. I will say that Hallerin Hilton Hill on WNOX was really outraged when he reported it, too.

Relieved to know that this site is considered a "joke". I was quite surprised after all of the positive things I have learned about Cookeville.

I think the only thing that really concerns me now is finding suitable employment. Since I am in vehicle sales, I'm sure I can do that most anywhere, but I'd like to get into a different line of work. The hours are a killer.

Thanks for the enlightenment all !

Tim
P.S. If your employer or someone you know is looking for help,pm me. I'd be happy to forward or fax my resume

What exactly happened with the Knoxville Commission? I keep reading follow-up stories about it but I don't know the whole story. What's the deal?
