Floy Scarlett of Scarlett's Grocery? Uncle Bethel was my mom's uncle, my great uncle.

I grew up in Baxter, although I haven't lived there in a long time. We used to go to Uncle Bethel & Aunt Dorothy's on weekends. They raised dairy cattle, so my granny used to get her milk there.

Uncle Bethel was such a favorite of mine that hubby & I named our songwriting team/band after him: http://www.myspace.unclebethel

I have to say I never expected to hear him mentioned online by anyone else. Small world, I guess... especially in Baxter.

I met Uncle Bethel when I was a little kid. My mom had told us that he had long hair, and we didn't believe it. He was wearing a hat and took it off to show us that he had his hair pinned up under the hat. I remember he had a long beard too.

Was your Mom a Prichard too? If so, which one?

My moms name was Maurine. She was Robert Schylers daughter. Robert Schyler was Bethel's brother. My grandma Irene was his last wife. He was a widower when my grandma started taking care of his children. Aunt Floy was my moms half sister. Robert and my grandma Irene only had the two kids, Maurine and Lenell.
Lenell died when he was about 3.

Baxter is a town in Putnam County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,279 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cookeville, Tennessee Micropolitan Statistical Area.Though this is a small town it had its few minutes of fame when the little family store was featured in "Coal Miner's Daughter."

Thank You,
B-2
