Hi all, I am a native Floridian and have decided that I am going to purchase some property in TN. for myself and my parents future residence. Mainly in the Putnam county area, does anyone have any areas they would recommend to stay away from or to really consider??
Don't get me wrong all I know is FL. but it has changed so much, very crowed, the houses are on top of each other and the schools are ok, and thats important for when I do have children.
My plan right now is to purchase the property for my parents, which will be retiring next year and once they sell there house in Fort Myers build on the land in TN. Maybe a few years later I will build on the property as well. I am looking at 5+ acreas to divide between myself and my parents, however, I am only 26 and can't retire yet ,unfortunately. So, I suppose I would need to be within distance of some type of real estate company or developments, that is what I specialize in "on-site developments" but I do not want to live to close to another house, I need some elbow room My dad and I love to camp and go riding on our atv's, we are not hunters at all, but love to explore. If any one had any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated. I plan to purchase something in June. Thanks again!
Sincerely
Jason

Hey Jason, there are many native Floridians who have moved up here to Tennessee, particularly on the Cumberland Plateau around Cookeville. My family made the big move when I was a kid, and it was the best decision my parents ever made (other than getting married and having us kids, of course!).

Do your parents want to live way out on the boonies or do they want to live closer to town? When you say they want elbow room, do they want enough land so they can farm it? Or do they just want space?

I've sent you a PM with web addresses for realtors in Cookeville who have land for sale. I honestly can't think of any part of Putnam County that would be undesirable, although land closer to Cookeville is more expensive just because of its proximity to Cookeville.

The Bloomington Springs area comes to mind, it's in the western half of Putnam County but is just a few miles from I-40 and only about 10 minutes to Cookeville. It's just north of Baxter. Just east of Cookeville is an area called Brotherton, it's just outside the city limits but is rural and very bucolic. It's actually one of my favorite areas of Putnam County, I go driving around there when I'm back in Cookeville for a visit.

But check the realtors I sent to you in the PM and order the relocation packages they have available. And please feel free to ask questions here in this forum; there are a bunch of us here who are big fans of the Cookeville area and will do what we can to help you out.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! I also sent you a PM. What do you think of the overton area? My realtor has sent me 5+ acre parcels of land from there. Also is there a problem with camping or my father and I riding atv's in this area? I know in FL. if they see you on an atv they think you are one of hell's angels

Overton County is beautiful! I would not hesitate to live there at all. And depending where you are in Overton County, you're connected to Cookeville via a nice, 4-lane highway that has almost no traffic. And with the number of hunters in Overton County, I cannot imagine that anyone would think you're weird for riding your ATVs. In fact, I'd love to go riding with you!
