As far as live bands in town go...

Spankies has a live band pretty much every Fri. & Sat. night. Great food/Great bar.
Crawdaddies on occasion but not regularly I don't think. Great food/Good bar
Wooly Bullies has a house band that plays every weekend. Dancing too. Good food/good bar
Newer place on the courthouse square downtown "Char". Good food/very good bar, non smoking inside. Live bands frequently. Laid back.
Vinnie T's is still very much open. Has dancing but usually no live music. It's a Tech age crowd pretty much exclusively.

The old Wilson building was a bar/nightclub for a good while but has since been bought out and remodeled.
It's now an indoor recreational spot that's still a work in progress. Has skateboarding ramps and such now and will eventually have a rock climbing wall and some other things.

I almost always stay at the Alpine when I'm in Cookeville overnight. I love it. There's nothing fancy about it, but the people who run it (an older couple from Austria) are super friendly, the rooms are clean, and the breakfast buffet is more than adequate. If you Google their web site (Alpine Lodge and Suites) they have coupons which really make it worthwhile.

Ask for a room overlooking Poplar Grove:

Thank you very much for the info but I have another question.

I was wondering is there a good cell phone company that has cheap rates to call Europe.

We stayed there on a recent visit to the area. The room was ok - good for the price, nothing fancy as mentioned. Our shower had zero water pressure and when my husband told the front desk they immediately gave us a suite on the first floor (for the same price) which was VERY nice. I would recommend getting a suite if you plan on staying for any extended period of time.
