Good, bad? Joint replacement, heart, cancer? Basically can they keep you going . One of the problems with our current location. I would try the vet before the hospital here . If one of the HS or College athletes gets hurt enough to have surgery where do they take them?

Not as good as the hospitals in Nashville/Knoxville. Cookeville is rumored to have a very good cancer and cardiac unit, but I personally dont care for the hospital. Both my parents died there.

As far as sports, IMO, Cookeville has a great orthopedic group that cares for the majority of sports related injuries.

Cookeville Regional is the largest hospital between Nashville and Knoxville. In the last two years it was ranked by Thomson Healthcare as one of the Top 100 in the nation.

It has a very, very good heart center that was ranked somewhere (I can't find it now) as one of the top 5 in the state. In the last 15 years they've performed 2,200 open heart surgeries and over 21,000 heart catheterizations. Its cancer center is also large--it just tripled in size with the opening of the new tower last year--and is one of only 2 hospitals in the state to offer Tomotherapy. It was featured on a Nashville news program:

CRMC is great. They have a very nice, brand new, state-of-the-art cancer center. If you decided to go to Nash or Knox for tertiary care center diagnosis and treatment planning, they will often refer their patients back to Cookeville to carry out the plan, but the oncologists in Cookeville are quite capable of those services themselves. If they are stumped, they have absolutely no qualms about referring their patients out to a tertiary care facility.

The cardiologists follow the latest protocols for heart attacks and have a door-to-cath lab goal that they knock themselves out to meet. As far as orthopedics, the ORs are kept busy with joint replacement procedures, etc.

They also have a Da Vinci robot that they are starting to use for more and more kinds of procedures.

The new tower is absolutely gorgeous. My daughter had to have an overnight stay for an orthopedic procedure and her room was wonderful. You can bring your laptop and use their free Wifi, too. You can order what you want for room service and if there are going to be visitors for a while, you can even order pizza and they will bring it up to the room.
