UPDATE: Now they're saying the new schools might not open until the end of September. What a mess! At least they have a place to put the students in the mean time.

Herald Citizen - Opening date for new schools still uncertain

Last July, just after VCC had won the Prescott project with a $26.4 million construction bid, architect Aaron Miller told the school board that the Atlanta company planned to work six days a week, sometimes on Sundays, to finish the new school in time for the regular school year opening date. Miller said the company would "lay 7,000 blocks a day."
When this construction began I knew a few people who tried to get work with not only this company laying block but with a company that was to do the pipe work once the block was in place. There was a lot of complaining about the constant delays and of course they didnt get hired due to this.

I hope everything goes smooth for the students and teachers.

My nephew was telling me there are plans to build a new high school in monterey next year. Has anyone heard anything about that?

You know that does ring a bell. It seems I've heard that the school board is talking about having just 2 schools in Monterey instead of 3, and making Burks something like a K-7 school and building a new 8-12 school. I think the people in Monterey feel they sort of got the shaft because Cookeville, Algood and Baxter all got big, beautiful new schools while Monterey only got Burks while the ES and HS are crumbling.

I haven't heard or read anything specific about it but Monterey does need a new high school, that's for sure. They've waited a long time. Now it's their turn.
