Not in here in the Valley. They start showing up around the first part of October--they are already beginning to run amok. They are almost always here before Thanksgiving. They leave by around the first part of April. Just this past weekend I saw cars from Ohio, New Hampshire, Ontario, Iowa, and Minnesota. They're baaack!!!!

Starting about now you will see lines of motor homes and travel trailers on the south bound lanes of all major highways. Things will really pick up after the first snows hit the northeast and north central midwest. I actually look for fewer winter Texans this year due to the slow economy and the higher cost of gas and diesel fuel, those motor homes and 3/4 ton trucks pulling trailers get really crappy gas mileage.

We made a trip to Port A this weekend for some decent seafood, went over on the ferry and drove back down the island. As we headed back to CC I noticed virtually every RV resort was pretty full; so a goodly number of the winter Texans are already with us.

We enjoyed a nice afternoon at Virginia's down by the yacht basin. For an evening meal I recommend Marcel's, Marcel is a fine chef and never fails to please.
Driving around I saw some new places on the island, mostly hamburger joints, but I have no experience with them.
Then, of course, no visit to the Island is complete without stopping in for a cold one at the Salty Dog Saloon.

I had some vistors for a few days last week. Others I know wait till after Thanksgiving weekend. Seems the older they get the more they consider pre-Thanksgiving departures.

jbtx, thanks for the info. I didn't realize they were considered a big factor in the economy. I'll pass it on, as i know more than a few who would like to 'snowbird' but are worried about lack of acceptance in the Southern community.
