I know Portland is across the bay from CC, but I'm just wondering how long is the drive from Portland to CC? Is there bad traffic? My hubby and I are thinking of relocating to Portland, but he'd be working in CC... I'm just wondering about how long it would take to get to work. In rush hour and not...

Portland is just across the bay, no more then 10 miles to North Corpus. It probably won't take much time at all.

You can look it up on Google Maps and using the "directions" function get an estimate of driving times between two addresses.

Using a worst case scenario if you worked out near Mustang Island State Park the trip from Portland would be 33.5 miles and 39 minutes. I'm sure it would be a little more during rush hour.

Its actually closer than that - they pretty much touch. North Beach Corpus and Portland share a common boundary. Depending on what foolish work they are doing on the bridge -it should be about 7 min from Moore exit in Portland to the Courthouse in CC

I live in Portland, and work in the Calallen/5 Points area of western Corpus. It takes about 5 minutes to get from the Moore access road (Hwy 181) to get to North Beach, and about 7 minutes to get into the downtown area of Corpus. I can get to SPID via Crosstown Expressway in about 15 minutes from Portland. To get to Calallen, it takes about 23-25 minutes, via I-37.

Portland is one of the best kept secrets of the Coastal Bend. The only thing that will stall you at the moment from getting to Corpus really fast is the construction going on on the Harbor Bridge, which at certain times of the day is down to 1 lane. But, that will pass soon, and things will be back to normal. Plus, with access to the Joe Fulton Corridor, you have 2 different ways to travel into the Corpus area.

Of course if you can swim it's a lot closer...but I wouldn't recommend it!
