This coming weekend is the annual Sand Festival in Port Aransas. We visit there almost every year at this time and its always lots of fun to see all the sand sculptures.

It is the largest Master Sand Sculpting Competition in the United States.

Its probably not that popular yet. We always stay in Rockport and drive over for a day. But there is probably more partying going on in Port A. This might help you find a room.

Where to Stay

The two basic building ingredients, sand and water, are available in abundance on a sandy beach, so most sand play takes place there, or in a sandpit. Tidal beaches generally have sand that limits height and structure because of the shape of the sand grains. Good sand sculpture sand is somewhat dirty, having silt and clay that helps lock the irregular shaped sand grains together
