I'd like to paddle the Mustang Island Paddling Trails.

I have an inflatable kayak.

Are there oyster beds or other sharp objects on the bottom that would make this impossible?

Thanks.

How heavy duty is the inflatable kayak?

I used a Sea Eagle 8 as a yacht tender for three years in Aransas Bay (Rockport) and in similar areas to what you are looking at exploring, along St. John's island, just North of Port Aransas and it was fine.

I encountered some oyster shell reefs that were hard on my feet and ankles when they sank into the mud and shells even with aqua socks on, but I never imagined them doing much damage to the Sea Eagle inflatable fabric when we beached it or drug it across shallows. The fabric on the SE is a 38mil PVC material. They are not the toughest inflatables made but they are fine for medium duty use.

None of that area is very industrial, so I would expect oyster shells to be the worst of anything you will encounter.

If your inflatable is as good as that or better you should be fine.

That trail looks like fun, easy paddling, probably lots of birds. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat...ap_mustang.pdf
