My Husband, 13 year old son and I are looking to relocate to Southwestern Texas for oil industry jobs. I am a white woman, my husband is half black and half white, he looks black. Our son is lighter skinned, hard to tell, but not for sure white looking. We are wondering if there is racism or acceptance for interracial couples and multiracial children/people. Thank you for any information you can give us on this!

I don't think that you'd have problems at all in corpus Christi. In fact, I would think that 100% white looking kids are probably in the minority (and that's on the southside of town.

Are you moving to Corpus or Southwestern Texas? Corpus is not SW Texas. Corpus is definitely South Texas, but more Southeastern then Southwestern.

I know here in Portland, that pie chart would be reversed on the white/hispanic sides of the charts. Interestingly, Hispanics are the minority here (compared to the amount of caucasions here). I have always found that somewhat odd, given how close Portland is to Corpus (around 5 miles from the edge of Portland to downtown Corpus).

I could imagine Rockport is even more white predominant, perhaps Port A as well?

I would expect that, property values are pretty high in Portland. Port A is very predominantly white, but oddly enough only has a population of 3,905.

To the OP: you can look them up any Texas city here. //www.city-data.com/city/Texas.html

CptnRn -We are looking at Corpus Christi, Victoria, Alice, Pleasanton, and San Antonio. I know that they are all different areas.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're from up north.

Realistically, no one is going to care if you're kid is a mix. Corpus is 70% Hispanic anyway. I'm to am a mix and never had any real issues. But asking questions like that might get you a dirty look or two... There is a lot of prejudice in that question...

Yes, it would be ridiculous to think interracial/mixed couples are frowned upon here. I haven't ever experienced any racial tensions.

Just a recommendation... If you are looking at both Corpus and Alice, drop Alice! Its a smaller town and traffic is horrible due to the oilfield. Half of the population speaks spanish and personally, I think its kind of dirty. I hate the town. I used to work for an oilfield company based there and was there daily. Corpus is only 35-55 miles away depending on what part of town you are living in.

Pleasington, San Antonio, and Victoria are all nice. Victoria has a larger black population percentage than Corpus but is a much smaller city. Pleasington is a smaller town 25 miles south of San Antonio and is predominantly white. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the US. I dont know how you feel about living in a large metropolitan area as opposed to smaller to mid sized cities.
