I may be moving for a new job in Corpus soon. I know very little about the city or surrounding towns. I will be coming down from the northeast. What are good neiborhoods and where do I not want to live ? I am thinking of doing weekly a rental until I get to know the area. Are there good places that offer that? Also what about outlying towns? Any suggestions are appreciated!
Oh, I lived up in odessa many years ago.....didn't like it!

To start off, I hope you are excited for the warm weather, because you better get used to it. Lol.

I had a friend that just moved down from upstate NY and he is looking for a home. He really likes the Portland area. Other nice areas around town are Calallen, Aransas Pass, Orange Grove, Along Ocean Dr/Alameda area, and the majority of the Southside of Corpus. It all depends on what kind of money you are looking at for rent or to buy.

You would definitely want to avoid anywhere on the Westside or Northside (Downtown area) of town unless you want a Loft downtown or something.

Corpus Christi is nothing like Odessa other than both towns having refineries and a large oilfield presence. Odessa is isolated and damn near a desert as to Corpus being near several major cities (San Antonio, Houston, Austin, McAllen, a bit further out but DFW is 6 1/2 hours away). Plus CC is by the ocean.

I haven't heard of any weekly rental places other than hotels, but maybe there a few places that may do that. It wont take you too long to learn the area, Corpus is big enough to have anything you want and need, but small enough to know where everything is.

I have heard it is major culture shock moving down south from elsewhere (large Hispanic influence). The humidity and long summers will probably take a long time for you to get used to. But you will love our winters. There are two seasons here: Summer, and Cold Fronts. Haha.

Other than that if you have anymore questions just ask. I think I have just about covered the general basics.

There are a couple of extended stay hotels you could stay at while you were figuring things out. Do you have kids who will be in school? That will influence your neighborhood decision.

Not to be rude, but why don't you just google "extended stay hotels corpus christi?" That way you'll get all the info you need in one place.

Sign a 3 month lease at an apartment complex. There are tons of complexes cheaper than a weekly rate hotel. For a 1/Br you can probably find for $600-$650 at a decent place.

Really? Just about every apartment complex that I have gone to has a 3 month lease option. Maybe you are not looking hard enough.

Actually, I dont think I have found a apartment complex that does not offer a 3 month option.

You have to actually ask the people sometimes as well. I rented for 6 months when I got here. A house with a yard for my dogs. Most prefer a year, but will rent less rather than not at all.
