Good evening...

I have relocated to the CC area and have been looking around at places to live. I do like the Portland area but was wondering what internet options there are in Portland.

Reading back through several pages, it seems like there were options a few year ago? Have things changed drastically?

Seems like Cobridge (formerly Charter??) and Clear are the two I see mentioned most.

Has ATT DSL or any other cable internet providers made it up there?

Thanks

I live in Portland, and use Clear. They have a tower on the south side of town that makes it pretty easy to get a good signal. Gtek Computers has some kind of internet thing (not sure exactly what they use). Cobridge is owned by Time Warner now, but they still offer the service in Portland. Lastly, you can always use a cell service like Verizon (3G service speeds).

Anyhow, welcome to Portland if you decide to move here! Great town, lots of nice folks here!

Thanks for the reply.

With CLEAR, what kind of download/upload speeds are you seeing? Are you able to set up a home wifi network as well, or is it just one connection per computer/tablet/phone?

Regarding Cobridge, what is the general consensus of their service? Or is Time Warner actually servicing the area now?

I don't know much about Cobridge except from the ads they sen me and the fact they are under the Time Warner umbrella. Cleat has improved alot in this area with the software updates they have done on their towers. The speed is rated at 4G, but can bog some in the evenings due to heavy usage. I have mine setup through a secure WiFi for my computer/laptop/game systems. Works great!

I wish we could get Grande out here.

I was on Charter, then it become Cobridge, now its Time Warner. I really dislike Time Warner as a company so I was disappointed to hear they took over and then we immediately lost KRIS.

If I didn't download so much stuff I would just tether on my cell phone.

Clear is 3G/4G wireless service so speeds would be comparable to cell phone tethering I believe.

GTek I believe is some sort of WIFI based service so speeds could be better than cell although upload and download bandwidth likely will still not be as good as cable.

I might look into GTek if I decide to leave time warner and no other cable provides have moved into the area by then.
