My partner is in the USCG, and is being restationed in Corpus Christi at the end of December. I have been searching all over the place to find any useful neighborhood descriptions, but have yet to find any that are truly helpful.
We both love older buildings and areas with character. I am recently 30 and she's only a few years behind, so the club scene isn't necessarily what we are looking for, but I would say we are looking for culture and diversity in a neighborhood and we would like to be close to that city-wise too. For the first year especially, we are looking to rent, but if we could we would like to avoid apartment complex living unless they are really nice and offer great amenities. I know that I am asking a lot, but I have no idea where to start looking and we will be there in 5-6 weeks, so any help would be absolutely appreciated!

LoL, I don't think that really exists in Corpus at the moment.

You could try downtown maybe.

There is no particular neighborhood like you're describing, but start looking at the area roughly bordered by Ayers, Dodderidge, Shoreline and Staples for houses to rent. You can also look downtown. There's an apartment complex called Bay Vista close to DT that has a lot of people your age in it and there are a couple of other apartments (Nueces Lofts) and condo bldgs down there.

There's no real LGBT neighborhood but CC is very live and let live.

Most people won't care about your alternative lifestyle. That being said, the more artsy areas are the Rockport/Port A areas.

On the flip side, my neighbors are openly gay, and they are well accepted by everyone around. Don't know of any specific clubs/bars that cater to the LGBT, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I haven't exactly been looking for them either.
