Hi everyone! We are moving from Fresno California to Corpus Christi and I am looking for a GREAT school for my kids to attend. They will be entering 1st and 5th grade. I am looking for a school that is hands on and uses hardly any text books. The school they attend now is a rigorous program with accelerated learning. It also has a policy that has no tolerance for bullies. Is there such a place in Corpus Christi or anywhere in the area? I have been looking for the past few days, and I am starting to think there is no such school in the area. Thank you in advance!

I'm probably way out of line here,,, but...

Good luck with getting your kids through school without ever seeing a text book. As a business owner and a parent, I insisted on my two sons being able to read and comprehend, I also only hired people who were literate. Reading is a very important skill, IMHO, a school without books is worthless.

If your kids can't read you are condemning them to a life of flipping burgers, I suggest you rethink your education goals for these poor kids.

Perhaps the OP is referring to using laptops instead of textbooks?

1st and 5th graders using laptops for learning with any degree of effectiveness is just laughable. These kids need to learn to read. Turn off the TV, take away the video games and laptops. Teach them to read for pleasure. Books open a whole new world for kids if the parents will just get out of the way.

I've been involved with teaching and practicing geoscience my whole life, my wife is a math/physics professor, we both agree that kids who can't read don't get very far in this world. Mostly they fail. Giving a kid a computer rather than a book is bad parenting.

Windsor Park Elementary is a great school but kids have to test in and I'm not sure how you go about that. You might also look at Corpus Christi Montessori School or the Seashore Learning Center, both of which are Charter Schools.

Any elementary school is awesome in Calallen ISD. Calallen East, Wood River, and Magee Intermediate are all some of the best elementary schools in arguably the best school district in CC.

I have no idea what that word means,

I was referring to kids really learning something of value. Public schools have dropped that model for some time now and don't care if kids pick up on their lessons or not. Mostly it's show and tell, simple multiple choice test that any moron can pass. Welcome to advanced Microbiology 101,,, (go out a catch a lizzard or a monkey. If I'm really hungry, a monkey will do nicely. and see if you can figure out his moves and color changes the monkey populations will decline quickly. Survivors basically need to find something to eat in short order.
