Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a Filipino community in Corpus Christi? I am considering moving there and my wife is Filipino. My wife doesn't need to live in a community with a huge Filipino population, but she would like to have at least few Filipino friends. Thanks.

-Ben

There is a Filipino community in Corpus Christi, but I wouldn't know how to tell you to get in touch with them. There are lots of nurses from the Phillippines in the hospitals and there's at least one restaurant in Flour Bluff.

There are lots of them in my parent's church- St John the Baptist. My nephew's babysitter is Filipina.

I've never seen a Navy base that didn't have at least some of them around. Combine that with the port, and there is a fair amount.
And there are two Filipino restaurants in Flour Bluff. Filipino Cafe and Little Manila Lumpia House. They're both worth trying, FYI.

Deposed President Ferdinand Marcos, for those who remember, had large residential, commercial and hotel holdings in Corpus Christi. That included one of the condos on Padre, in the 80's. There was a small Filipino store on Alameda in that little strip-center fronting Buccaneer Bowl. Last I was in CC the Asian Market on SPID was owned by Filipinos. Spohn hospital brought in many Filipino nursing school graduates in the 80's. There's even a "Jollibees" in Houston now. . .a Filipino fast food joint.

It's easy to have all this sort of data at your fingertips, the measuring, the facts as opposed to the vagaries of opinion: American FactFinder

You have to do your homework:

American FactFinder - Results *

If you recall, when "Crude" dropped to $11.00 a barrel in 1986 and everything in Houston was for sale, lease, or rent. A huge civil suit was filed in Houston federal court to recover monies and property by the Republic of the Philippines, from Marcos, his wife, and Adnan Khashoggi. Who was Adnan Khashoggi, an arms dealer, also involved with the Iran–Contra and Lockheed . . .affairs?

You would think, with the reported over-heated CC economy, more runners would have shown for the Beach to Bay Run.
