That's a good point. Or somewhere between or around Austin and SA, like San Marcos, New Braunfels or Seguin.

Unfortunately Austin's become really expensive and overbuilt, so now we're looking at Corpus Christi / Portland as a potential alternative. All of these questions have a follow-up: "How does it compare to Austin?"

1. Is there a nightlife? We've heard there are great daytime activities, but are there cool bars and places to hang out?

2. Best areas to live? We currently pay $1,550 for a 2-bedroom apartment, so I'd like to reduce that as much as possible. I've heard Corpus Christi is dangerous, lots of gang-related activity...is this true?

3. Dog friendly?

4. What's the weather like in the summer?

My husband is from NYC and is spoiled when it comes to culture, so it's incredibly important that there are things to do on the weekend. We don't have any children.
OP: You'll have to be more specific about what y'all want.

But in general, if your husband loved Austin, he'll hate CC. I say that b/c I hated living in Austin, and absolutely LOVED living in Portland.

Austin vs. Corpus Christi,,, two different worlds. Austin is very much younger and more college youth minded, Corpus is much more laid back and has a more defined Mexican flavor.

And the above it true, winter in Corpus usually lasts about 2 weeks sometime during Jan or Feb, and then it spring again.
