I stopped by the CC Farmers' Market for the first time, yesterday. I know that it's still a new and growing establishment that is facing some obstacles to growth, so I didn't expect anything incredibly grand. With that knowledge/expectation, it was a nice, little market, with a handful of producers in multiple genres (goat cheese, grass-fed beef, local honey, produce, eggs, coffee roasting...) who are passionate about what they do and excited to talk about their wares and processes. That was great! I hope more people start to patronize the market and participate. Please go and drop a few bucks if you haven't already!

Peach season in Texas peaks in May. If anyone tells you they "know a guy" selling fresh peaches in Texas right now the guy most likely is Mr. Butt (from H.E.B.) In May it's worth a trip to the Fredericksburg area to buy a box of peaches.

The Saturday market on Everhart may have more stuff. But there is a seller there who I don't believe grows her own stuff. So....if she has stuff that no one else has, chances are good that she bought it elsewhere.

Thanks, Marlow! There are a few websites for peach farms in Fredericksburg that say certain varieties run through the first 2 weeks of August (definitely closed now at the farm locations though), and they were at the farmers' market (just in small packages for a high price) claiming to be from Fredericksburg, this week. I'm certain that it was/is the tail-end of the crop (didn't expect to see any there), but I thought maybe that, if they were there, they'd exist elsewhere still, as well. Thanks for that info. I'll have to check out the Everhart market, thanks for the info and the tips on sellers!
Earlier in the summer, a few friends noticed roadside-sellers with signs, saying "Fredericksburg Peaches." If anyone has any info on where and when those characters are out and about in these parts, I'd love to file the info away for next year. I'll plan a trip to Fredericksburg then, if not.

Thank you! I've been burned by mealy, grocery store peaches so reliably through the years, that I've been hesitant to purchase them there. The vote of confidence in them helps.
I'm really just looking for an excuse to have a weekend of jam-making and wine-drinking with a girlfriend. Even though it's not as romantic-sounding to preserve grocery store peaches, as long as they're tasty, they'll do.

Perhaps they were better earlier on in the season, but I 100% do NOT recommend peaches from HEB for any purpose. They are the horribly mealy-textured things that I have come to expect from grocery stores. Better luck next year, I suppose.

Like any fruit, sometimes you get lucky. I've had some really good ones from them, but you could tell by the way you could smell them from the front door that they were ready to be eaten.
We never had any luck with Sprouts, their produce always seemed to go off within a day or two of purchase.

In season I really lucked out on peaches this year, even from the regular chain grocery stores. Unfortunately it's over now.
I was really pushing it last week buying two peaches, just hoping I got in on the tail end, horrible. Had to throw them both out. Until next year...

We are at the end of the season. But as recently as a week ago we got some good ones. I always smell them. If they smell like a peach, they'll probably be good. If they don't smell like anything they won't taste like anything either.
So if you see me going down the row of stone fruit sniffing, come up and say Hi.
