Hello all --

I've accepted an excellent position at TAMUK starting in July. I'm considering commuting from CC and would likely live in a rental for a year before I bought a house. Do you have any suggestions of places to live that have good rentals, etc? I'll be here by myself and then joined by my family which means a 1BR preferably furnished rental would work for me. I have found a couple of nice rentals on North Padre but I'm concerned about that being too long of a commute. Also, does anyone here have any suggestions about Kingsville or places to live in between?

Thanks so much for any suggestions you may have.

I would definitely live in CC. I don't have any ideas for particular rentals, but try looking on Weber and Staples as far out as you can get--past Saratoga if you can find anything. Another possibility is in Calallen, which is where 77 and 37 intersect.

35 min from Calallen
40-45 min from the Southside(Staples/Weber)
45 min from Downtown
50 min from North Beach
50 min to Ocean Drive corridor
1 hr from the Island

Downtown and Ocean Corridor have the most nice 1 br apartments or condos. Southside has some newer apartments. Not a ton of furnished stuff but Cort runs a furniture rental business. Kingsville is nicer than anything between it and Corpus.

Thanks for the information. I get the idea that about half of the employees at TAMUK live in Corpus and half in Kingsville. I know one person who commuted from North Padre and it wore her down after a while. I'll look into the furniture rental a bit.
