Someone told me that there is a constant wind in Corpus Christi. Any truth to this?

Being so close to the coast there is a pretty consistent breeze. It dies down if you go very far inland.

Often enough that when there isn't one it's noticeable.

Average is 12 mph which is top ten for US cities above 100k. It's much more reliable and stable than other places since it is a combination of the interaction between the water and land and the Mexican desert and mountains. It's fairly consistent as a southeasterly wind that peaks in the afternoon. Because of that it's more noticeable than other places. It's why we have lots of wind turbines and sailing championships.

The proximity to Mexico's desert is key in this, along with the high heat South Texas sees compared to areas further north/east in the state. The higher heat causes the temperature gradient that drives stronger winds. Also, high pressure centers tend to influence South Texas quite strongly in summer, establishing the strong pressure gradient that also drives winds.

Galveston, for example, isn't as windy as Corpus, because the corresponding inland areas don't get as hot as South Texas. Southeast Texas also tends to escape the summer high pressure much of the time, meaning less of a pressure gradient for winds. Greater tree coverage in Southeast Texas also contributes in slowing winds. On the other hand, the lower pressures over Galveston/Southeast Texas during summer allow for greater thunderstorm frequency that season compared to South Texas:

Anyway, both Galveston and Corpus rank among the top 30 windiest US cities:

That was just someplace I would not have moved
And his aunt lived there at the time and we had visited enough for me to know couldn't take the wind/breeze or other aspects

You picked Shreveport over Corpus for the wind?
