Visiting April 2018, how's the recovery? (Houston, Corpus Christi: condos, hotels, house)

We've been to CC & Port Aransas every year.
I'm planning to visit in April 2018, hoping that all is back to normal...

How's the recovery progressing? Will all shops/hotels be open by then? will all beaches be cleaned by then?

CC is fine. I think some things are open in Port Aransas but overall things are very difficult there. If you're hoping to stay in Port A you should contact the individual place(s) to see what their status is. I know they want people to go there to support the economy, so you should get a good welcome. As far as I know, the beaches are fine.

Rockport and Port A going slow. hose areas were really hammered, in some cases entire buildings and house just gone. Add to that the infrastructure getting completely wiped out it will take years to recover. CC city itself dodged a bullet. That being said many of the hotels are still full or partially full with people here working in the recovery effort. In some cases a few have closed to remodel post Hurricane. I know a few on SPID are. That being said a couple of new ones are opening soon. So come on down but realize it will be drastically changed from what it was last year. Things are open, people are putting lives back together. I have coworkers in the Aransas and Rockport areas who still have no place to live staying with family or friends. So check before coming down.

I saw a good interview with the mayor of Rockport on PBS news recently. It was eye-opening to see the level of devastation in Rockport that still remains and how little media attention that got in comparison to the coverage of the flooding in Houston.

I stayed several times in prior years at the Goose Island State Park campground just north of Rockport. It is a beautiful state park and campground - the TX state park website shows that the boat ramp, picnic area and west end of the island is now open. The campground, fishing pier and east end of the island remain closed with no estimated opening dates. I hope the 1000 year old Big Oak Tree in the park survived.

I went online to try to make a reservation at The Dunes or Port Royal, and neither are open again yet.

There are some hotels open, you just have to go online and put your dates in. We're considering going too, not that weekend, but soon. I don't know if it will be depressing. Apparently the beaches are good.

If you can't find a place to stay in Port Aransas, you can always stay in Corpus Christi and spend the day at Port A. I think the beaches are fine.

Came down with the family. We always stay at El Cortez Villas in mustang island but it was destroyed so we stayed in North Padre. We took a day trip over to Port A and although it is improving, there is still a lot of destruction and closed hotels/condos.

Beaches are clean. Damage to Port A was wind and coastal flooding from the Bay side from rising tide. The dune line on the Gulf beach side was not breached. Since the wind comes off the Gulf the debris went inland so the beaches were clean the day after the storm. In Aransas Pass and Rockport it was basically all wind damage. North Padre is fine, only thing I saw there was a house that had a garage fire during the storm and burned down since the fire department couldn't get out to it.

Main issue is some things are still closed and people are absorbing lots of hotel rooms. For example Corpus Hotel tax receipts are up 20% from before the storm. I'd suggest booking a reservation as soon as you can because of that.
