May I ask, why your leaving Seattle, for the Texas Gulf Coast? What is it about Corpus/Portland area that draws you to it?

Default Relocating to Corpus

I have recently been offered a position at NAS Corpus and I am a single mother of a 13 year old daughter. I keep hearing that Calallen and Portland are the better areas and the best schools but what about the about the Flour Bluff school area. I want to be close by to my daughter but I also want to live in a safe area, hopefully without too long of a commute. What is the driving times to NAS from Calallen and Portland?

Appreciate all answers.

Portland to the NAS... about 30 minutes if I remember right. Someone will correct that if I am too far off, I'm sure.

I grew up there (Portland), and as an AF brat I went to the NAS for all my doctor's appointments and my mom shopped at the commissary there 2x a month.

Portland's nice. Boring, but nice.

Flour Bluff schools are rated same as Calallen. Portland homes generally cost more than Corpus, Flour Bluff homes. There are several new developments in Flour Bluff and some nice apartment complexes if you wish to rent first. Flour Bluff is undergoing redevelopment along SPID, Waldron Rd and Flour Bluff Dr. We decided to build in Flour Bluff over Portland and Calallen mainly for convenience to everything in the CC area.

Default Carroll High School?

Thanks for the information. How far (drive wise) is Flour Bluff to NAS? I was recently told that the Carroll High school is very highly rated. Can you share your opinion of that school?

I don't think any of the Corpus Christi high schools are very highly rated and I don't believe that Carroll is particulary highly rated.

If you're going to be working at NAS, you should definitely look first at the Flour Bluff schools and housing in FB just so you'll have a reasonable commute. FB schools I believe are generally considered as good as, if not better, than any of the CC schools.

gabetex gave some information however Corpus is NOT the hottest city in the country. McAllen is way hotter as is Brownsville. There are places outside of Phoenix and Las Vegas - also much hotter.

I prefer Rockport to Portland/Corpus less crime and unlike Portland, Rockport is not a suburb- its its own unique community on the ocean. Friendly and I often leave my door wide open when I go out. It is 24 min from CC but there is never traffic.
