Planning a move and looking for pros and cons to the areas. We have an elementary aged child and have seen Portland seems to boast one of the best elementary schools in the area. This draws us here obviously, but cant find much about elementary schools in the rockport area. Does anyone know particularly how the schools in Rockport are, or if there are other top rated schools ok the area I might be missing?
Also interested in knowing good areas to live or rent. Not wanting to be in the worst area of town or put my family in the mix of a crime ridden neighborhood. We will be renting but may be in the market to buy depending on what we can find. Anywhere specifically recommended or advised to avoid?

Aransas county(where Rockport is) has a single school for each grade level. There is a k-2 school(Live Oak learning Center) and a 3-5 school(Fulton Learning Center) before middle school. That's probably why you couldn't find anything on them.

The schools are not very high performing but that's most likely a socio-economic issue and a tax base issue. Portland has a sizable tax base and has a lot of industrial employment and commuters to Downtown Corpus. Rockport is a retirement community. So the "wealthy" parts of Rockport tend to be retirees who don't have school age kids.

Best area elementary is Windsor Park at CCISD (IB magnet), GP is up there as are Tuloso, Calallen, and the CCISD Southside schools.
