Hi

Being very new to Texas, I would greatly appreciate your recommendations for places to stay, things to do, where to eat and where to go for long weekend getaways to the above locations and anywhere else that you recommend to us (out of Houston).

We like walking, swimming, watersports, horse-riding, bird-watching, eating and drinking. Prefer sophisticated and romantic settings (not family orientated).

Thanks in advance.

Lost Pines Resort-Bastrop
Hill Country Hyatt in San Anotonio. Take Limo for a Hill country Wine Tour and do an afternoon in Fredricksburg.

They can both be family oriented or not. Spa and fine dining in either location doesn't involve the kiddos.

Smile Places to visit in Hill Country

Hi,

Wow, there are so many wonderful places from Austin down to the San Antonio area. We love Kerrville, Hunt, Bandera, Fredricksburg and Boerne all west of San Antonio. If you enjoy golf there is a great resort called Tapatio Springs. Tapatio San Antonio is great for the River Walk.
I prefer to go in the fall when it is much cooler and you have somewhat of the season change.

Heading north you have Austin and the surrounding area. Lakes, Wildflower center and so many things to list. You could even start your drive from San Antonio heading west through the hill country and then head back to the NW to Austin and kind of drive the loop. You of course would want a long weekend to do the loop. In the Fall these cities have all kinds of festivals going on that are lots of fun. The are lots of Bed and Breakfast through out the hill country.

If you enjoy camping Garner State Park is beautiful in the fall. West of San Antonion. There are lots of websites to check out for all the places mentioned. I know there are some books on traveling the Hill Country of Texas, don't know the titles. I am sure if you head to your local book store they could help.

Have fun and I hope this helps a little.

Thanks to you both for this information; although I think my camping days are over as you reach a time in your life that ensuite bathrooms and fluffy towels become a necessity!!!
