In our 7th month in Corpus we are adapting to what the locals refer to as almost like separate towns and what we would call neighborhoods. It was confusing when we first started looking into moving to Corpus when people would refer to Calallen, Flour Bluff and North Padre Island as if they were separeate "towns" from Corpus, yet the city of Corpus maps would show Calallen, Flour Bluff and North Padre Island as within Corpus Chrisiti city limits. When we tell locals we live in or on Flour Bluff we often get the response "you live way out there?" On this chat board I often read locals responding to out of state inquires about Corpus as if Flour Bluff and Calallen are the next town over from Corpus. I am guessing at some point Calallen, Flour Bluff and North Padre Island were annexed into Corpus. Now that we are getting it, we will tell people locally when they ask where we live, that we live on Flour Bluff and not in Corpus Christi.
I will admit in our first visit to Corpus it did feel like Calallen was a separate town or "suburb" primarily because there is not must between downtown Corpus and Calallen and we even decided not to build a home there for that reason.
