I think that Sunrise Mall's owner group is trying to avoid that property going into foreclosure. It's safe to say that Sunrise Mall is dead.

Another group is building an "outdoor lifestyle center" called Crosstown Commons...it's supposed to be similar to the Shops at La Cantera development in San Antonio. I'm skeptical that an upscale outdoor shopping area can be successful in Corpus Christi, especially in the location that Crosstown Commons is building (near the Starplex theater where a shooting occurred a couple of years ago). The other problem with outdoor shopping in Corpus is the combination of heat and humidity in the summer. Air conditioning was invented for places like Corpus Christi.
